The Artist’s Escape
“This is the way the world ends.” Is one of T.S. Elliots most quoted lines, and yet is not as significant as the line after: “not with a bang but with a whimper.” These two lines alone are shocking, but not significant enough to change the direction of any human being. However, “The Hollow Men”—the poem where these lines are embedded, provide enough reasons, and cautions, for all the world to wake up.
But only if we dare to read it.
Without the human ability to think, and interpret, our doom is imminent. Man is powerless only if he so chooses. Modernity has resigned to the passenger’s seat, while inventions such as AI take the stirring wheel. We have sentenced ourselves to a life in prison—with a creation of our own. The solution? To keep creating
